12-Month IPTV Subscriptions: When Paying Annually Actually Saves

Short answer: a 12-month IPTV subscription saves money only if you would have paid for all twelve months anyway. Among licensed services, annual plans are mostly offered by on-demand services such as Peacock, which lists Premium at $129.99 a year against $12.99 a month, a saving of about 16%, or roughly two months free. The big live TV bundles like YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and Sling are sold month to month. The catch: a year paid up front is a bet that the service, its price and your viewing habits all stay the same, and "50% off a year" offers for live TV are a warning sign rather than a bargain.

Who actually sells 12-month plans

Annual billing is common among on-demand streaming services and rare among live TV services.

Peacock is a clear example. In September 2026 it lists Select at $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year, Premium at $12.99 or $129.99, and Premium Plus at $19.99 or $199.99. Each annual price works out to roughly ten months of the monthly one. Paramount+ and several other on-demand services also sell annual plans on some tiers; availability changes, so check each service's plan page.

Some services are available at an annual-style price through a bundle instead, such as a streaming service included with a retail membership or a phone plan.

The live TV bundles, which are what most people mean by an IPTV subscription in the US, are monthly. That is explored further below.

The break-even maths

The one number that matters is how many months you would actually pay for if you went monthly.

Months you'd keep it Monthly at $12.99 Annual at $129.99 Better choice
4 $51.96 $129.99 Monthly
8 $103.92 $129.99 Monthly
10 $129.90 $129.99 About even
12 $155.88 $129.99 Annual, saves $25.89

The pattern holds for most annual plans priced at "two months free": the annual plan wins only if you would otherwise keep the service for more than about ten months. People routinely overestimate that number. A service bought for one series or one sports season is often idle for half the year.

When annual is the right call

The service is a household staple. Something used every week by several people, all year.

Its sport runs most of the year. A service carrying a league with a long season, or several competitions back to back.

You would forget to cancel anyway. Honestly, if a monthly subscription tends to run all year regardless, the annual plan just charges less for the same behaviour.

A price rise has been announced. Locking in an annual plan before a rise can protect you for the year, depending on the terms.

When it isn't

Seasonal viewing. If you watch for a season or a series, monthly and cancel is cheaper. Our plan for covering a whole year with rotating services shows how.

Uncertain content. If the reason you subscribe is a show or a league whose rights might move, a year is a long commitment.

Tight cash flow. The saving is modest; the up-front cost is not.

A first-time subscription. Try a month before committing to twelve. The free trial or first month tells you more than the annual discount does.

What you give up by prepaying

Flexibility. Refund policies on annual plans vary, and many services do not refund unused months if you cancel early; access simply continues until the year ends.

Content certainty. Terms allow services to change their catalogue. A licensing deal ending mid-year does not usually earn a refund.

Auto-renewal at a new price. Annual plans renew automatically too, and the renewal may be at a higher price than the one you paid. Diary the date a few weeks early, because an annual renewal is a large single charge.

These risks are small with a large, established service. They grow quickly as the seller becomes less established.

Live TV: why there's no annual plan

Live TV services pay channel owners per subscriber, per month, under carriage agreements that are renegotiated often. That makes it hard for them to guarantee a price for a year, and their lineups can change mid-agreement.

Their customers also churn by season, especially sports fans, and the services have leaned into that with discounts, passes and pause features rather than annual plans. Sling's day and week passes are an example.

So for live TV, the equivalent of an annual saving is smart timing: subscribe when your content is on, drop to a cheaper tier or cancel in the off-season, and use the antenna and free services in between. Our guide to what an IPTV subscription costs lays out the monthly prices to plan around.

The half-price-year offer

Search results for 12-month IPTV subscriptions are dominated by offers of a year of thousands of live channels, including every sport and premium film, for a price well under what a licensed service charges for a single month.

Given that licensed live TV bundles do not sell annual plans and cost $80 to $90 a month for far fewer channels, an annual offer at a fraction of one month's price cannot be paying for the content. The year you prepay is exposed to the service being disrupted, taken down or simply abandoned, and there is no one to claim a refund from. This is the case where the annual discount is the risk, not the reward.

Quick answers

Is a 12-month IPTV subscription cheaper? On licensed on-demand services, usually by around 15 to 20%, but only if you would have kept the service for more than about ten months.

Do YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV or Sling offer annual plans? No. The major US live TV bundles are billed monthly.

Which streaming services offer annual plans? Several on-demand services, including Peacock, and Paramount+ on some tiers. Check each service's current plan page.

Can I get a refund on an annual plan? Often not for unused months. Many services let you cancel renewal and keep access until the year ends.

Does an annual plan protect me from price rises? For the paid year, usually. The renewal may be at a new price.

Are cheap yearly IPTV deals worth it? Offers of every channel for a year at a fraction of a licensed monthly price are unlicensed, and the prepayment is lost if the service disappears.
