Short answer: Roku removed private channels — officially non-certified channels — on 23 February 2022, and deactivated every code globally. They were automatically deleted from devices and are not returning. Roku has no sideloading: no APKs, no file manager, no equivalent of the Fire TV Downloader route. The replacement, Beta Channels, exists for developer testing and is capped at 20 users per channel with a 120-day expiry, which makes it useless as a distribution method. If you want IPTV on a Roku in 2026, your options are an IPTV player app from the official Channel Store, or casting from a phone or computer. That's the complete list.
What the codes were
Non-certified channels let developers distribute apps outside the Channel Store. Anyone with the code could add it from their Roku account page, which made the feature genuinely useful for testing — and popular for distributing pirated and adult content, which is what ended it.
Roku announced the change in October 2021 alongside its Independent Developer Kit, and shut the system down on 23 February 2022. Users could no longer install or launch non-certified channels, and Roku removed them from its Developer Dashboard.
The consequence for anyone searching now: every list of "working Roku codes" is describing something that stopped existing more than four years ago. Sites still publishing those lists are either not maintaining them or counting on you not knowing.
Why Beta Channels aren't a replacement
Beta Channels took their place, and on paper they look similar — an access code, an app outside the store. The limits are what matter:

Twenty users and a four-month expiry rule out any real distribution. Roku designed those constraints deliberately, and they've held.
Roku doesn't sideload. At all.
This is the part people coming from Fire TV find hardest to accept. Fire TV runs Android, so the Downloader app plus "install from unknown sources" gets you any APK. Roku OS is a closed, proprietary platform with no open file system. Developer Mode still exists but handles one app at a time and is meant for active debugging, not installing software you found somewhere.
There is no workaround. Guides promising one are describing either the pre-2022 system or something that doesn't work. If sideloading matters to you, the honest answer is that you bought the wrong device — Fire TV, an Android TV box, or an NVIDIA Shield all allow it, and Roku deliberately doesn't.

What actually works
IPTV player apps in the Channel Store. Several certified apps accept M3U playlists or Xtream Codes credentials. They're generally less capable than Android TV equivalents — thinner EPG handling, no recording, more basic interfaces — but they're legitimate, they update, and they don't require circumventing anything. Search the Channel Store for "IPTV player" and check recent reviews, since quality varies and apps come and go.
Casting and screen mirroring. Play on your phone, laptop or tablet and send it to the Roku. This is now the main route for anything without a Roku app. It costs you some quality and depends on your Wi-Fi, but it works with any player on the source device.
Official apps for licensed services. If your content comes from a licensed provider, they most likely have a Roku app already — Roku's certified store is large, and this path needs no codes at all.
What not to bother with
Any list of "working Roku private channel codes." They were deactivated globally in 2022. A 2026 article publishing them hasn't been updated or is padding for traffic.
Sideloading tutorials for Roku. The platform has no mechanism. The tutorial is either obsolete or wrong.
Buying a Roku specifically for IPTV. If flexible IPTV is your main use, an Android TV device does the job better and costs about the same.
VPN-based "unlock" claims. A VPN changes your apparent location. It doesn't restore a removed platform feature.
If you already own a Roku
You're not stuck, just limited. Use a Channel Store IPTV player and accept the reduced feature set, or cast from a phone. Both work today with no codes involved.
If neither is enough, an Android TV box sits alongside the Roku on the same TV for the price of a couple of months of most subscriptions, and gives you the full range of players.
