Short answer: on a Fire TV you can buy live TV three ways, and only one keeps everything on your Amazon bill. Prime Video add-ons such as Fox One ($19.99), Peacock Premium Plus ($16.99), HBO Max and NBA League Pass are billed by Amazon, play inside the Prime Video app and can be cancelled in two clicks, and Amazon says they don't require Prime in the US. Full live TV bundles such as YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling and Fubo install from the Appstore but are usually billed by the provider, so you cancel with them, not with Amazon. Below: what you can buy, what it costs as of October 2026, and exactly where to cancel each kind.

Three ways to pay for live TV on a Fire TV

"Subscription for Firestick" sounds like one thing, but there are three distinct routes, and they differ most when you want to stop paying.

1. Prime Video add-ons (Amazon bills you). You subscribe to a channel such as Fox One or HBO Max inside the Prime Video app or on Amazon's website. Amazon charges your account monthly, the content plays inside Prime Video, and you cancel in your Amazon account. Amazon says more than 100 add-ons are available in the US, with or without Prime.

2. In-app subscriptions through the Appstore (Amazon may bill you). Some apps let you sign up on the TV using the payment method on your Amazon account. When that happens, the subscription is listed in your Amazon account and is cancelled there, even though you watch in the provider's own app.

3. Direct billing (the provider bills you). You install the app from the Appstore, then sign up on the provider's website or app with a card. Amazon isn't involved in the billing at all. Most full live TV bundles work this way.

The quick test: look at who emailed you the receipt. That's who you cancel with.

Prime Video add-ons with live TV and sports

Several Prime Video add-ons include live channels or live games, not just on-demand libraries. Prices below are Amazon's listed US monthly prices; the first block is from Amazon's own September 2026 list, the sports rows from an April 2026 listing, so check before subscribing.

Add-on Price Live content
Fox One $19.99 Fox broadcast, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, Fox News
Peacock Premium Plus $16.99 Live NBC, Sunday Night Football, Premier League
Paramount+ Premium $12.99 Live local CBS, NFL on CBS
HBO Max $10.99 / $18.49 Live sports from TNT Sports
CNN All Access $6.99 Live CNN
NBA League Pass $17.99 to $28.99 Out-of-market NBA games
NBA TV $6.99 NBA TV channel
FanDuel Sports Network $19.99 Regional NBA, NHL, MLB games where available
MLB.TV $24.99 to $89.99 Out-of-market baseball
WNBA League Pass $12.99 Out-of-market WNBA
Prime itself $14.99 (or Prime Video $8.99) Thursday Night Football, other Prime sports

Two practical notes. Add-on prices on Amazon can differ slightly from buying the same service direct, sometimes cheaper, sometimes not, so compare before you choose. And Amazon's Live tab on Fire TV pulls in live channels from add-ons and from free services, so many of these show up in one guide alongside free channels from Pluto TV and others.

Pick add-ons if you want one or two networks or a league pass without a $80+ bundle. Skip them if you need ESPN and local channels together; no add-on combination replaces a full live TV service cheaply.

Full live TV services on Fire TV

All the major licensed live TV bundles have Fire TV apps in the Amazon Appstore. These are the services to choose if you want a cable-style channel list.

Service Price (Oct 2026) Usually billed by
YouTube TV $82.99 Google
Hulu + Live TV $89.99 Disney (Hulu account)
Sling TV From $45.99 Sling
Fubo From $64.99 Fubo
DirecTV From $89.99 DirecTV
Philo About $33 Philo
Frndly TV From $8.99 Frndly TV

"Usually" matters here: if you sign up from the TV and the app offers to use your Amazon payment method, Amazon becomes the biller instead. Either is fine, as long as you know which.

YouTube TV if you want the most complete service and the best Fire TV app among the bundles. Sling if you want the cheapest route to ESPN and cable channels, with an antenna for locals. Frndly or Philo if you don't watch sports. Skip full bundles if one or two Prime Video add-ons cover what you actually watch.

Not ready to commit? Sling has no contract: pay month to month and cancel online anytime.

How billing and cancelling work

Amazon-billed subscriptions (add-ons and Amazon in-app purchases). On a computer or phone, go to your Amazon account and open Memberships & Subscriptions. Prime Video add-ons and Appstore app subscriptions are listed there. Choose the subscription and cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, and partial months generally aren't refunded. Prime Video add-ons can also be managed from the Prime Video settings on the web.

Provider-billed subscriptions. Cancel in your account on the provider's website or app. Deleting the app from your Fire TV does not cancel anything; the charges continue.

Refunds. Amazon and most providers don't refund unused days, so cancel shortly before your renewal date, not right after paying.

Household access. Amazon-billed add-ons follow your Amazon account, so they appear on any Fire TV or Prime Video app signed into it. Provider-billed services follow the provider account and its own stream limits.

One habit saves most billing headaches: when you subscribe, put the renewal date and the cancel location ("Amazon" or "YouTube") in your calendar.

Free trials without the surprise charge

Most Prime Video add-ons have offered a seven-day free trial, and live TV bundles run their own trial offers that change through the year. Trials convert automatically into paid subscriptions.

The safe way to trial: start it on a day you'll actually watch, test what matters (your local channels, the game you care about, the DVR) in the first two days, and cancel straight away if you're unsure. With Amazon add-ons, cancelling during a trial usually leaves the trial running until it ends, so there's no reason to wait.

Being charged after a trial is the most common complaint in reviews of every live TV service. It's almost always avoidable.

Newer Fire TV sticks and Amazon's app rules

Amazon's newest sticks, starting with the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, run Vega OS rather than Android-based Fire OS. They run only apps from the Amazon Appstore, and the selection is narrower than on older models. The major live TV services and Prime Video add-ons are built for Amazon's own platform, but check that the app you need is listed for your exact device before you subscribe.

On every Fire TV, Amazon now blocks apps it identifies as providing access to unlicensed content, at installation and when opening them. That's why "IPTV for Firestick" offers built around a downloaded player and a seller's login are a poor buy: besides the legal problem, the app may simply stop opening. The giveaways of those offers are familiar: thousands of channels for $10 to $15 a month or $70 a year, payment by crypto or gift card, and setup instructions that start with "install Downloader."

Everything in the tables above is licensed, in the Appstore or inside Prime Video, and billed by a company you can name.

Our pick

For a light sports viewer: Prime Video add-ons on Amazon billing. Fox One plus Peacock Premium Plus covers Fox and NBC games, Big Ten and the Premier League for about $37 a month, with one bill and one cancel page.

For a full cable replacement: YouTube TV, billed directly, with the most complete channel list and the strongest Fire TV app.

For the lowest monthly cost: Sling plus an antenna, or Frndly TV if you don't need sports.

Quick answers

Can I buy a live TV subscription directly on my Firestick? Yes. Prime Video add-ons such as Fox One and Peacock Premium Plus can be bought through Amazon, and full live TV services like YouTube TV, Sling and Hulu + Live TV install from the Amazon Appstore.

Do I need Amazon Prime to buy Prime Video add-ons? Not in the US. Amazon says all customers, with or without Prime, can subscribe to more than 100 add-ons.

How do I cancel a subscription bought on Fire TV? If Amazon bills you, cancel under Memberships & Subscriptions in your Amazon account. If the provider bills you, cancel in your account with that provider. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it.

Do I get a refund if I cancel mid-month? Usually not. You keep access until the end of the paid period, and partial months generally aren't refunded.

Which live TV services work on Fire TV? YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, Fubo, DirecTV, Philo and Frndly TV all have Fire TV apps, along with Prime Video add-ons and free services such as Pluto TV.

Can I watch Thursday Night Football on a Firestick? Yes, in the Prime Video app with a Prime membership or a Prime Video subscription.

Why won't an IPTV app open on my Fire TV? Amazon blocks apps it identifies as giving access to unlicensed content, both when installing and when opening them, and it doesn't make exceptions.

Add-on prices come from Amazon's US list (September 2026) and a sports add-on listing (April 2026); bundle prices are US list prices as of October 2026. Billing arrangements vary by app and sign-up route, so check your receipt. Taxes and regional fees are extra. Checked October 2026.
