Short answer: premium live TV on a Roku means a licensed live-TV streaming service with a Roku app. The main ones are YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV, Fubo, Sling TV and Philo, and as of September 2026 they range from about $25 to about $90 a month. The catch is that the price you see is rarely the price you pay for long: sports add-ons, 4K upgrades, regional sports fees and annual increases push most households well above the headline number. Decide first whether you need local channels and live sport, because that one choice sorts the services into two very different price bands.

There is no "IPTV Roku 2026"
Search results for premium IPTV on Roku are full of pages describing a product called "IPTV Roku 2026", complete with processor specs and subscription tiers. It doesn't exist. Roku makes streaming players and TVs, and it runs The Roku Channel, but it doesn't sell a premium IPTV subscription under that name.
When people talk about premium IPTV on a Roku, what they are actually choosing between is a set of licensed live-TV services, often called virtual pay-TV providers. They stream the same channels a cable company carries, with cloud DVR in place of a box, and they all have Roku apps.
You'll also see sellers offering thousands of premium channels for $10 or $15 a month and describing themselves as "Roku compatible". Those prices don't cover the licences for the channels on offer. We explain what to look for in how to judge an IPTV service before you pay.

| Fubo | About $85 | Most markets | 1,000 hours |
| Sling TV | From $45.99 | Select markets only | 50 hours |
| Philo | From about $25 | None | Unlimited, kept 12 months |

The local channels question
The biggest split between these services isn't the number of channels. It's whether you get your local ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates.
The four top-priced services carry locals in most US markets. That's a large part of why they cost what they do, since broadcasters charge carriage fees for each station.
Sling carries a few locals in select cities; Philo carries none. Both are cheaper partly because of it.
An antenna can fill the gap. If you live within range of the transmitters, a one-off antenna purchase gets you locals free, in excellent picture quality. On a Roku TV, antenna channels appear in the same Live TV guide as streaming ones. On a Roku stick, you'd switch inputs on the TV, or use a network tuner and a compatible app.
Check each service's website with your ZIP code before subscribing. Local line-ups vary by market, and a missing station is the most common reason people switch services in the first month.
If sport is the reason
Sport drives most premium subscriptions, and it's where the headline price is least reliable.
- National sport on ESPN, FS1, TNT and the broadcast networks is on all four top-priced services, with differences at the edges. Sling splits it across its packages.
- Regional sports networks vary by service and by area, and some carry an extra fee on top of the base price.
- League packages such as the NFL Sunday Ticket are sold separately and are expensive add-ons.
- 4K is limited to selected events and often requires an add-on.
If you follow one team, start with where its games are broadcast in your area and work backwards to the service, not the other way round. Our guide to the cheapest way to watch the NFL in 2026 shows how that works for one league.
What you'll really pay
The base price is the start of the bill, not the end.
| Extra | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Sports or premium add-ons | Extra channels, often $10 to $20 each |
| 4K or more screens | Higher picture quality or more simultaneous streams |
| Regional sports fees | Charged in some areas, on some services |
| Sales tax | Varies by state |
| Annual increases | Most services raise prices at least once a year |
Introductory offers expire. Several services discount the first month or two. Put the renewal date in your calendar.
Rotating is legitimate. None of these services has a contract. Many households subscribe for a sports season and cancel afterwards, which can cut the yearly cost substantially.
How each one behaves on a Roku
All six apps work on current Roku players and Roku TVs, but they don't all feel the same.
Guides. Every service has its own channel guide inside its app. Some also feed channels into Roku's own Live TV guide, so they sit alongside the free channels. That varies by service and changes over time.
Sign-in. All of them use an on-screen code you enter on your phone, so there's no typing with the remote.
Older Rokus. Live apps are among the most demanding on the platform. On a Roku more than about six years old, expect slower guides and occasional crashes. That's usually the moment to replace the player rather than the service.
Network. Live streams can't buffer far ahead. If you watch live sport on Wi-Fi and see drops at busy moments, a Roku with an Ethernet port, such as the Roku Ultra, is the fix more often than a faster internet plan.
When free is enough
Before paying $80 or more a month, spend a week with the free options that come with a Roku.
The Live TV guide on the home screen carries several hundred free, ad-supported channels from The Roku Channel in the US, including news and local news in many areas. Pluto TV, Tubi and Plex add more. Together with an antenna for locals and one on-demand subscription, this covers a lot of households without any live-TV service at all.
What free won't give you is most cable networks, most live major-league sport and cloud DVR. If those don't matter to you, a premium service is paying for things you won't watch. Our guide to TV channel apps for Roku lists the free ones worth installing.
A quick way to choose
- No sport, no locals needed: Philo, or free channels plus an on-demand service.
- Some sport, tight budget, antenna for locals: the Sling package that carries your channels.
- Locals, sport and cable in one app: YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV or Fubo. Pick by your team's channels and your ZIP code's locals.
- Already a Disney+ and Hulu household: check the Hulu + Live TV bundle price, which includes both.
Then take the free trial if one is offered, watch on your actual Roku for a few evenings, and cancel before it renews if it doesn't suit.
